Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a partner?
It's up to you! Dance alone, as a couple or in a group. It's a great place to make new friends, so don't be shy. If you'd like a partner, just speak up, there is always someone that would like to dance.
Do I need to know special dance steps?
No special dance steps are needed to have a great time at this event. Your style is our favorite style!
Is there any dance etiquette I should be aware of?
A couple of simple requests. We ask that you keep the dance floor dry so those boots will scoot and please watch where you're going to avoid collisions. Some dance fast, and some dance slow, so get out of the way or get into the flow! Slower and stationary dancers often stay toward the middle so the faster dancers can do hot laps around the outside. (Well, not really, but you get the picture!)
Will I be able to learn about Cajun and Zydeco dance?
Whether you know nothing, a little or a lot about Cajun and Zydeco dance and want to know more, we have friendly, knowledgeable, talented dance instructors to make your learning experience fun. Just check the schedule and join the next class!
I know some Cajun and Zydeco dance steps already. Are there advanced lessons?
Our dance instructors are very knowledgeable. They have a knack for instructing beginners and making them feel comfortable, and during the same lesson, providing advanced techniques for more advanced dancers. So regardless of your ability and your level of knowledge, you're welcome at any of our dance workshops. We're sure you'll have fun learning to two-step, waltz, zydeco or jitterbug.

Zydeco Festivals as humanly and financially possible, but have also had success competing in Cajun and Zydeco dance contests, including 1st place “World Champions’ Zydeco Dance Contest” at the infamous New Orleans’ Tipitina’s in December 2006.
We are pleased that Mike and Liz will be teaching both Cajun and Zydeco dance at this year’s Taste Louisiana Cajun & Zydeco Festival. “Many events we teach at these days feature just Zydeco dance, but both styles are very important to us. We hope to encourage as many people as possible to become Honorary Cajuns, if not already graced with Cajun heritage,” Mike recently mentioned. "It really doesn't matter if you dance the way we dance, but if you want to learn from us, we're sure please to be in Iowa to be of assistance!
At Cajun Fest, We challenge you to keep your feet still when our Cajun and Zydeco bands take the stage. We're betting you'll feel the music and will be tapping your toes or heading to the dance floor in a very short time! There is no right or wrong way to dance to the music, so two-step and waltz, jitterbug or rock & roll. When you come to 'Cajun Fest, anything goes as long as you're having fun!'
If you'd like to learn to dance the way the Cajun's do, or learn the unique Zydeco dance rhythm, you are welcome to join the dance lessons offered by our fun, friendly & capable dance instructors. Mike and Liz Humphreys, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, have been dancing Cajun and Zydeco Music for over a decade and a half and although only Liz is a Louisiana native, both can now say that Cajun blood flows freely through their veins. This couple has a driving desire to promote the Cajun, Zydeco and Creole heritage—a heritage that has survived over the past quarter-millennium in South Louisiana. As members of the Cajun French Music Association, Mike and Liz are actively involved in bringing attention to the Culture of the Cajun & Creole settlers, their descendants and a heritage that is based on strong family values.
Mike and Liz met at a CFMA sponsored dance in Baton Rouge back in March of 2003. On February 14, 2004, they "jumped the broom" in the presence of a few hundred dear friends and began their life together sharing their common love of Cajun and Zydeco music through dancing and teaching. They not only attend as many Cajun and
